City Harvest

Charity Overview

City Harvest is the New York community’s response to hunger. Nearly 20% of New Yorkers currently live in poverty, struggling to afford basic necessities such as rent, medical care and putting food on their tables. Each year City Harvest collect 55 million pounds of excess food to help feed the nearly two million New Yorkers facing hunger each year. Through relationships with local farms, grocers, restaurants and manufacturers, City Harvest collects nutritious food that would normally go to waste and delivers it free of charge to 500 soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programmes across New York City’s five boroughs. City Harvest has developed a long-term Healthy Neighbourhoods programme which partner with disadvantaged communities to increase access to fresh produce and help residents shop for and cook nutritious meals, whilst keeping within a fixed budget.
